The passage of time inevitably leads to birthday anniversaries and aging. This is, of course, true in any society. But, our society, age tends to be acknowledged only when the number is less than thirty. You see, youth is America’s oldest tradition. That’s why there are no "old" people in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Only "senior citizens." For the same reason, there’s rampant age discrimination in the U.S. labor market even though it is illegal. The fact that it is difficult to prove in court makes it easier to favor the young and bypass the old, thereby encouraging the illegal practice. Many employers want highly experienced workers, but not so experienced as to be "elderly." If you doubt this, and you're fifty or above, apply for a job for which you are qualified, and see the result.
One of the very few things I feel safe to say about our planet is - everyone wants to live long, but no one wants to get old. For all of the negatives of old age, the alternative doesn't make me feel lively.

Come to think of it
Age is a matter of mind; if you don't mind, it doesn't really matter.
